Explain This To Me Again, Please?
Janet Jackson's nipple is exposed on national television and the FCC and conservative Christian groups go off the wall talking about the downfall of modern society.
A television show is created, The Book of Daniel, in which a priest (gasp) actually has conversations with (double gasp) Jesus - and once again, conservative Christian groups mobilize their Morality Armies to try and kill off the show before it has even been seen by anyone.
Those same Morality Armies find it necessary to mobilize to rid our unclean world of cartoon characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and Barney because the characters are being exploited to promote homosexuality.
These, of course, are just a few examples... we all know there are HUNDREDS more where these came from.
Mention Pat Robertson to these same groups and they treat him like the crazy drunk uncle in the corner of the family room that no one wants to admit that they know.
Robertson calls for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, and everyone just looks the other way.
Robertson calls on Christians to pray for the death of Supreme Court Justices, and those same Christian "Morality Armies" that attack all the other evil in the world laugh it off as the ramblings of someone they try not to pay attention to anymore.
Most recently, Robertson has come out and declared that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's massive stroke was "divine retribution" for "dividing God's land."
Although I have written about Robertson before in the past, my impulse here was to just ignore it... the more attention you give Robertson, the happier and more "on the radar" he becomes.
Fair enough. But I also have to point out that this man has had a television show on the public airwaves since the 1970s. Currently, the show claims over one million viewers.
And yet, I haven't heard a single word from the FCC, or other government officials, reprimanding him or threatening to take him off the air, or face ANY kind of punitive action as a result of his statements and actions. More than that, those same Christian groups who fight to keep our airwaves clean turn a blind eye to Robertson and the 700 Club.
If the Morality Armies can band together to take these actions, shouldn't we be doing the same? And shouldn't the largest target be the first one? Isn't time to "Assassinate the 700 Club?" Is ANYONE with me on this???
UPDATE: Just came upon this.... it HAS to be a joke, DOESN'T IT? Can anyone else verify this??? Tip of the hat to The American Moderate Party for the post.
