Hi... My Name is Flesh, and I'm a Left-Wing Blogger....
(all together now... HI FLESH!)
There's a nice article in The Washington Post today about left-wing bloggers - a group of which I'm more than proud to be a part. Sure, I'm little compared to folks like AmericaBlog, Crooks and Liars, and My Left Wing (the blogger featured in the article) - but I feel like every voice that speaks out becomes part of the collective volume which will help to turn the tide in 2006, 2008, and well beyond.
One of the most interesting points David Finkel makes is the notion of where all the anger in the left-wing blogosphere comes from:What's notable about this isn't only the level of anger but the direction from which it is coming. Not that long ago, it was the right that was angry and the left that was, at least comparatively, polite. But after years of being the targets of inflammatory rhetoric, not only from fringe groups but also from such mainstream conservative politicians as Newt Gingrich, the left has gone on the attack. And with Republicans in control of Washington, they have much more to be angry about.
"Powerlessness" is O'Connor's explanation. "This is born of powerlessness."
Powerlessness is a word of the past, though, my friends. The tide is turning, and every day that we use our voices and our energy to make a change is a day closer to the end of powerlessness.
To that end, I encourage you to read gottlieb's "A Call To Action" - encouraging all of us to get off of our collective, whiny asses and MAKE THE CHANGE HAPPEN!
