Not only did TomKat have their baby, Suri. Turns out that Brooke Shields had her baby, as well. The little girl was named Grier.

Tom Cruise, a Scientologist (just in case you've been living under a rock for amillenium or so), spoke out against the use of medications by Brooke Shields to cope with her postpartum depression. There was that infamous interview with Matt Lauer, when Cruise's crazy was just beginning to peak.

According to Wikipedia, however, the eating of a human placenta is a rare practice, but one that does happen. Human placentophagy, as it is called, has been said to prevent... wait for it... wait for it... postpartum depression.

Just in case you're curious, by the way... there are several different methods by which one can prepare the placenta - roasted, lasagna, or our personal favorite - either as sashimi or tartare.
Ugh. This has been a post about a little bit more "Pressing The Flesh" than I've ever intended on this blog. Sorry.

Yea....ya kinda needed a "don't read while you are eating LUNCH" warning on that one! :-)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a good story: A roommate of mine a while back used to live with a bunch of other people. One of them was a woman who was pregnant and very into natural childbirth. After her baby was born, she kept the placenta, wrapped up, in the freezer, planning to eat it or fertilize a tree with it or some such thing. But she moved out a few month later and forgot about the placenta in the freezer.
ReplyDeleteSeveral months later my friend's new roommate came home rather loaded one night and went looking for something to eat. You guessed it...he found the placenta and gleefully shouted, "Yes! Steak!"
Luckily my friend was there to set him right. Or I don't know what would have happened.
And no, it wasn't me. But thanks for asking...
